Premiere of ‘The Bell That Never Rang’ by Lau & The Elysian Quartet

On 30 January 2014 Lau, along with The Elysian Quartet, premiered their New Music Biennial commission ‘The Bell That Never Rang’ at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival. A drinks reception was held to celebrate the first performances of New Music Biennial commissions from Luke Daniels & Matheu Watson on 23 Jan and Lau (see photos below).

Lau and The Elysian Quartet delivered an inspiring performance, leaving the audience shouting for more. Don’t just take our word for it – check out these brilliant reviews:

an 18-minute beast characterised by swathes of thrillingly queasy glissando” THE GUARDIAN

a melodic triumph for new experimental music” THE HERALD

a succession of beautifully arrayed minimalist-style sequences…a dense, otherworldly mesh of woozy glissandos… Chris Drever’s vocal passages provided a wonderfully authoritative, warmly resonant core to the piece as a whole.” THE SCOTSMAN
