Day 1 – New Music Biennial 2022 in Coventry
The first day of the New Music Biennial weekend in Coventry kicked off with incredible performances of pieces by Toby Young, Arlene Sierra, Philip Venables and Paul Purgas. Toby Young’s emotive new work “Breathlines” opened the festival at the stunning Coventry Cathedral performed by the Midlands based Armonico Consort followed by Arlene Sierra’s New Music Biennial 2014 piece for electronics and three pianos, “Urban Birds”, at the newly refurbished Georgian venue Drapers’ Hall. HMV Empire hosted the London Sinfonietta’s performance of Philip Venables and David Hoyle’s “Illusions” before Paul Purgas wrapped up the first day with his new performance piece with tape.
